You can use the Details View control to update existing database records. In order to update an existing record, assign the value True to the Details View controls Auto Generate Edit Button property .

I don't get it why because I select the editing option, same for insert and delete. All I do is change some input like replace textbox to Dropdownlist in Edit Template. Before, it left it blank that is why it not change anything.I found it strange when I start over to default without dropdownlist or any change in edititemtemplate. I don't know why it won't response when I change something in edititemtemplate. Details View generates a user interface similar to the Form View of a Microsoft Access database, and is typically used for updating/deleting any currently displayed record or for inserting new records. You might want to explore additional data capabilities of ASP. I have the same question as: Grid View contents don’t update when underlying data changes but the answers supplied do not work for me, i'm after ideas please because so far I've wasted 3 days trying to get a Grid View to refresh on the postback of a Details View.I've tried to use the Data Bind() method on both the Grid View and on it's Linq Data Source, the Data Binding events are fired but the Grid View does not reflect the changes made in the Details View. I've tried it outside the Update Panel, but that did not solve the problem. But I'm using 2 Linq Data Sources - one for the Grid View, and one for the Details View which has a where-clause with the ID of the selected object in the Grid View.
